We attended the 9 Year Anniversary of DA CYPHER in Tampa in June, where artists that have attended through the years shared some memorable experiences they have had in the 9 years this staple to Tampa Hip Hop has been around.
For those who live in Tampa or have done music in the Tampa Bay area; you most likely have come across Aych or his long-standing open mic that has become a staple and cornerstone of the indie music scene called DA CYPHER. This year we celebrated their 9 year anniversary and got some thoughts and memorable moments from other artists and individuals in the hip hop community that have been impacted by Da Cypher. It goes without saying, that 9 years is a long time for any standard weekly event to go on; and the fact that they have survived almost a decade speaks a magnitude on the impact Da Cypher and Aych have had on the Tampa Hip Hop Community. We don't know many people who do music in this area that don't know about DA CYPHER, and platforms like this are the kinds of platforms we believe are instrumental to artists DEVELOPING their craft, BUILDING their network and FINDING their niche. Watch and enjoy the shenanigans!

We have all heard the phrase, "levels to this," right? Insert the ILLUMINATI REJECT project to that sentence and walk away. This project is probably one the strongest ones to meet our review gauntlet.

Whether you are a promoter or an artist, the concept of Pay 2 Play affects everything in regards to shows and the business environment it cultivates as a result of ongoing practices. There are many angles to view the business model; and there are multiple benefits and drawbacks from both the implementation of Pay 2 Play as well as the absence of it.

Despite the growing number of artists that are paying to get on showcases and opening slots for major shows, there is still a large number of indie artists and like-minded business minds who believe the Pay 2 Play model is more damaging than it is helpful.
